Something I keep noticing with our volunteers is how quickly the kids open up to them.
When the person sitting across from you is a university student or a young professional in their 20s, you don't see a teacher. You see someone who just went through what you're going through. Someone who gets it.
That gap between "authority figure" and "older sibling" makes all the difference. The walls come down faster. The questions come easier. And suddenly, studying for an English exam doesn't feel so intimidating.
Near-peer mentorship isn't a program strategy. It's just what happens when a relatable person shows up and says, I've got you.
If you're a student or young professional thinking about volunteering, this is your sign. Come spend 2 hours with us on October 15th.
