DAA ARTISTS: KEN TANAKA
Here is the profile of our first confirmed artist for DAA, who will be instructing painting classes.
" My name is Ken. I grew up in Fukuoka with four sisters and two brothers. I loved drawing from a young age, but being inept with sketching and figure drawing, I'd settle instead for drawing funny-looking aliens in their martian habitats.
At 18, I moved to Tokyo where I was an English tutor, machinery salesman, cooking instructor, and customer service manager in industries ranging from online travel agency, to airline, to cryptocurrency. After hours were spent scribbling my floral drawings on the backs of coasters in bars. In the summer of 2021, I decided to quit my job and focus primarily on my art.
Each of my artworks is created a small, self-contained, living world where it is beautiful and safe, and it is my sincere hope to share these little worlds with you.
Sincerely,
Ken Tanaka "

YouMeWe is Officially Registered in the Philippines
It is our pleasure to announce that YouMeWe is officially registered in the Philippines. Now that we have taken this step, YouMeWe will be able to do even more for children’s homes across the country. As a Japan based NPO, this is a major step towards strengthening our our work in the Philippines. We have set up a board of professionals, which includes members of the banking and business sectors. Our relationships with some of these individuals go back 20 years, and we look forward to continuing our growth together.
As a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, we are seeking the support of member companies in providing laptops, scholarship funds, and employment opportunities for the youth we work with. As the Philippines’ population continues to grow and its GDP continues to expand, its youth can become key members of the global information economy. We believe that the youth champions who we support have the potential to fill the critical roles of tomorrow.

Legacy Foundation Juneteenth Gala
On Friday, June 14th, members of the YouMeWe team attended the Juneteenth Gala hosted by Legacy Foundation Japan. YouMeWe was chosen to be the recognized NPO of the night. Michael Clemons gave a speech recognizing the significance of Juneteenth and highlighted the importance of empowering institutionalized youth in Japan. He emphasized that we must not look at these children simply as victims of their circumstances; rather it is necessary to highlight the immense potential each of them possesses: “No one asked to be born, but when they are, they deserve everything life has to offer.”
Other members of the YouMeWe team supported Legacy Foundation with setup on the day of the event. Gio Cannegieter, Love Lee, and Muhammad Waraich each had the opportunity to engage with the African American and African diaspora community on issues of race, development, and the responsibility we have towards supporting orphans across the world.

Pizza Party at St. Francis
On May 13th, YouMeWe, 7 dedicated volunteers, and the staff at St. Francis worked together to hold a pizza party for institutionalized children. The international group of volunteers each presented about a foreign country's landmarks, greetings, and culture. Then, we offered a series of fun activities such as puzzles, bracelet making, and face paint, that the kids were free to wander between. Finally, we ended the night with an all you can eat pizza buffet! Thank you to everyone who helped us bring this event to reality!

Born in Ukraine, my mom immigrated both of us to the U.S. when I was young, and I've lived everywhere from L.A. to Chicago to Denver, and now I'm in Indianapolis. Currently a junior at Butler University, I'm majoring in International Studies with a minor in Philosophy.
I am very appreciative of YouMeWe because their mission recognizes that the children of today are our future, and we need to come together as a community to care for them. I look forward to being a part of this community and the team in Japan!”
